Relationship with Writing

My Relationship with Writing

As some may notice, I have a turbulent relationship with being consistent with my writing. From what I’ve seen on social and other media platforms, this is quite normal. I was recently watching an episode of “Disenchantment” and Luci’s quips about the nature of writers and writing are a little too close to home.

That’s a good start, but if you want to be a real writer, you’re going to need to procrastinate a lot more.

“Luci” from Disenchantment Part 2 Episode 8: In Her Own Write

And, I’m not here to say otherwise. What I am here to say is that I’m back with some reliable and attainable goals for this month. I’m hopeful that they will keep me on track while allowing me time to procrastinate ūüėõ

Goal 1: Review and Update Chapters 1 & 2 of WIP

My first goal for this month is to review, expand and rewrite these initial chapters. During NaNoWriMo, my original plan got away from me due to the fact that I had to add extra ideas to reach the 50 000 word target. As well as that, the tone of the story changed. I was hoping for something a little more amusing, a little more satirical. The story got away from me.

This month, and the following months, I aim to explore if I should keep these changes, steer the story back to my original plan or do something completely different. I welcome any feedback.

Goal 2: Finish Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy Series

As mentioned, I’m not pleased with the tone my story took on. To remedy this, I’m re-reading the entire Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy series by Douglas Adams. While I don’t want to be as larger than life as Adams’ writing, I do want to take on his ‘don’t take it too seriously’ approach.

My goal is to finish the Trilogy of Five by the end of the month.

Goal 3: Update Blog At Least Twice A Week

As the first law of motion states: an object at rest tends to stay at rest, and an object in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted on by other forces. Well, it’s time I get moving otherwise I won’t move at all.

In future posts, I’ll be exploring research writing techniques, my current WIP, as well as any updates that I find essential sharing. I also wouldn’t mind even dropping a short story prompt now and then. At the very least, my goal is to post here once a week, whatever that may be.
